This unique rural community is perched high above the Sunshine Coast beaches and amazing Glasshouse Mountains in south-east Queensland. Locals say the rolling green hills, deep pockets of rainforest and spectacular views in all directions cast a spell over Maleny. But that's only part of the story. Come unravel the mystery for yourself … For thousands of years the Bonyi-Bonyi Mountains were the abundant homeland of the Gubbi-Gubbi people. With European settlement this was initially a watering camp for bullock teams. By 1904, the township centred on a cooperative butter factory with 19 suppliers. Today Maleny is a thriving, creative, culturally diverse community of more than 5000 people… the heart of the hinterland. |
