Beerwah

Beerwah is the commercial and industrial centre for the southern plains section of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. In the 19th century this was rich timberland and, when the railway north opened in 1890, Beerwah gradually replaced Coochin and Campbellville as the main town of the area. Today it services a productive fruit-growing area.

In Aboriginal legend, Mt Beerwah was a pregnant mountain left by her cowardly son to fend for herself against approaching floodwaters. Borrowing its name, this bustling rural town is virtually in the shadows of spectacular Mt Beerwah and the other spectacular Glasshouse Mountains just to the south.

Beerwah sports an 18-hole golf course and many other recreational facilities. It's also home to the Australia Zoo with the world-renowned Crocodile Man Steve.
